1. Inspiring your design

An eclectic way we encourage clients to begin, is to browse our Provenance Design Eras Timeline, to spark a memory, or story of design. It could be a painting, a chair, car, place or piece of architecture.

More specifically ideas can be created by particular forms, or otherwise a personal anecdote about something you or a significant other loves to do, this can be an ongoing development.

2. We design your custom watch

Creating the styling cues, this process draws on the ideas we discuss with you during the initial consultation. Once the sketches are complete, we present them to you in person, by video or through a design document.

We always make suggestions focused on minimalism, but encourage the chance to bring more extravagant design details to life.

3. Decide on colours, materials, finishes.

Technically called CMF, an Industrial Designer will specify the particular finished details of a product before production. We do this for every watch, or in other words, every client.

At this stage, we always reassure a book can be provided of the entire design process because the watch begins to become sentimental before it’s even made.

4. Precision metal cutting begins.

Engineering the detail of the watch and making it. We spend countless hours detailing, dimensioning, creating up to 10 custom tools for every watch, to craft the perfect proportion, and produce a precision made set of metal components to fit together in unison.

We like to call this phase, the Theatre, it’s as exciting as it gets, hundreds of years of development in precision come down to microns. Advancements in technology have created an opportunity for Paceracer to do what we do, combining cutting edge precision tools with artisanal techniques.

This is our black art.

5. Black Art - Hand finishing & Assembly

All the details predetermined months before being created, are now finalised with a finishing touch by hand.

The most intricate, permanent phase of creating your watch. Hundreds of careful steps take place to bring the form of the watch to a high sheen, and apply the graphical attributes to communicate the time on the dial, while looking like a Paceracer watch.

Final assembly is a highly focused set of steps that require utmost attention to placement of hand, fingers, tools and eye.

Muscle memory, coordination, motor skills, cognition - they’re all words up till now, and we rely solely on them to act & execute.

6. An artisanally hand produced watch is completed

The completed watch begins to tick for the first time. Each Original Design is marked on the back, and never again.

Custom Designed

Generally a custom watch is invented as a mark of someone's success or a keepsake.

The starting metal is Surgical Marine grade steel.
Titanium, being 40% lighter, with a charcoal grey colour is becoming a hard earned favourite.
Precious metals are often for investments or memoirs. From the full to case to an internal bezel.
Gemstones are usually for character, significance or engagement watches.

The Provenance Original Design service provides you with the ability to access something truly unique. Create your very own custom watch. Your watch will begin with what inspires you and then sketches & technical design will bring to life the shape, size and material. From the dial shape to the indices every step is consulted with you to make the watch uniquely yours. With the Provenance service, you have the ability to make multiple engravings to the case, including the back, sides and crown.

The lead time is 4-6 months.
